How to Get Out from "Under the Gun" Part IV

Madeline, Michael's mother, had received a phone call from Fi, her son's girlfriend, who was in prison. Fi needed Michael to pick up a package for her from a fellow inmate's ex-husband and deliver it to the prison by 9am the next morning. It was critcal.

Madeline couldn't reach him, so ventured out herself.

Part IV

Retrieving a package from an angry ex

Madeline arrived at the ex-huband's apartment still trying to get Michael but only getting his voice mail. She decided she would ask for the package herself since time was of the essence.

Ayn's ex was home and answered the door wanting to know "You lost grandma?"

Madeline explained that Ayn sent her. He knew why she was there and invited her in.

Madeline entered the apartment and asked if he had the package and he assured her he did but he wanted to know how she knew Ayn. Madeline explained that she was a friend of a friend.

She spotted some cigarettes on the table and asked if she could have one. At this point he was being real friendly, and said "Sure you can have a cigarette."

As they walked towards the table he added "Do you know what you can't have? You can't have the package!" Then he slamed Madeline against the wall with such force that her cheek was bruised.

"What was Ayn thinking sending an old lady? Did she think I would feel sorry for you?", he told Madeline.

Madeline remained relatively brave and told him she couldn't leave without it, then asked if he needed money.

Ayn's ex explained that the last guy who came for the package left without his teeth. He wanted Madeline to give Ayn a message, "Tell that bitch if she wants her stuff she better come get it herself." Then ordered Madeline out.

Michael goes after the package

Michael drove all night to return home from the Everglades, then went immediately in pursuit of the package, not even changing his clothes. His mother accompanied him to show where the apartment was and help gain access to the apartment.

When they arrived she asked him if he was sure he wanted to do this.

He was determined to get the package and told her "Knock on the door, let him see you, and step to the side."

Madeline told him that Fi indicated that the package had to be there by 9am. Even if they got it in the next five minutes, it would be too late.

All Michael said was, "Knock on the door, let him see you, and step to the side."

Madeline knocked at the door as Michael requested and the ex answered. "Back again? You must not like your teeth much, huh?"

The door was chain locked. When he closed the door to remove the chain Madeline stepped aside and Michael took her place. Ayn's ex opened the door. Using his fist, Michael stuck him in the head with extreme force knocking him back.

He then pinned one of the ex's arms behind his back and slammed his face against the refrigerator leaving a blood stain and asked where the package was.

The ex played naive. "What package?"

Again, Michael slammed his face against the refrigerator, leaving more blood on it. "Where is it?"

"There, left drawer."

Madeline went to the desk, tried to open the drawer but it was locked.

Still pinning the ex, Michael asked where the key was. The ex didn't respond so Michael attempted to hit his head against the refrigerator once more, but the ex saw what was coming and pointed to where the key was hidden. In the jar on the kitchen counter.

Michael again slammed his face against the refrigerator, this time adding pressure to the ex's arm until he yelled out in agony.

Madeline emptied the jar finding the key. Michael said, "It better be the right key."

Madeline returned to the desk and opened the drawer. She found a box inside and asked the ex if that was the package.

He indicated that it was.

Madeline made her way to the door and told Michael they needed to go. She repeated it.

Then Michael snapped the guys arm while Madeline was watching, leaving her in shock at what just happened. The ex fell to the ground in pain and said "What did you do that for?" Michael told him "That's for my mom" and they left for the prison.

How to Get Out from "Under the Gun" Part III

Fi was in prison falsely accused of killing two security guards that she didn't do. She was being framed by Anson, the former head of a rouge network involved in international conspiracy. Michael, Sam, Fi and Jesse had exposed this network and Michael along with the CIA had captured all involved...so they thought. They missed one, Anson. He was the one who started the entire network. And he was angry.

He wanted to rebuild the organization that he worked so hard to create but he needed Michael's help. Anson had "burned" Michael years earlier to recruit him into the network, but Michael resisted and eventually destroyed the network. Anson was very familiar with him and Madeline, Michael's mother, through psych evaluations. With the right incentive, Anson could pull Michael's strings and make him do his bidding. Thus, he framed Fi to keep Michael under his thumb while he rebuilt.

Michael had never had such a formidable foe that knew him so well. Anson knew his every move. Desperate, Michael started compromising his values which alarmed Fi. To stop Michael from his dangerous path, she turned herself over to the authorities. She thought with the knowledge and documents she had against Anson, all would be well.

Fi had successful survived an attempt on her life. A fellow prisoner, Nicole, who she thought was an ally, had tried to kill her. A cell phone mysteriously appeared under Nicole's pillow and on the other end was a man threatening to kill her sister if she didn't kill Fi.

Now there was a contract on her life and "the sisters" had taken the bait.

Part III

How to survive a contract hit in prison

Fi was keeping busy doing push-ups, sit-ups, and looking at a picture of her and Michael. Anything to pass the time and keep her body and mind prepared for battle.

"When you're marked for death in prison you're always anticipating the next fight. The earlier you spot a potential adversary the better you can defend yourself. Unfortunately, that's not always enough. If you realize you have multiple attackers coming at you with a coordinated assault just defending yourself won't work. The only move is to attack."

A prison guard forced her to leave her cell for chow even though she told her she wasn't hungry. While making her way through the food line, two women positioned themselves around her waiting for the ideal time to attack. One had a knife, the other a switchblade. Fi remained attentive to her surroundings and knew when to attack, but in the process of protecting herself she received a slash to her arm, but she survived.

After getting her food, Fi joined Ayn (the prison entrepreneur) who offered to sell her Vicodin at a sale price of ten bucks, which she normally never does. Fi refused and told her what she needed was to know how those women were able to manage getting a switchblade in prison.

Ayn explained, that those two, the sisters, could get their hands on just about anything. They were lifers. They did contract hits just to pass the time, the same way some girls knit. Whoever was trying to kill Fi didn't care about keeping it quiet any more, not it they hired "the sisters".

Michael was trying hard to get Fi out, but she had to survive until that happened. She was hoping Ayn would help her, but Ayn turned her down now that the sisters were involved. Ayn might die in prison but she preferred to die by natural causes.

How to arrange a cell toss in prison

Later that day, Fi was playing chess with Ayn but she wasn't paying attention, thus losing. Ayn loved winning but not if there wasn't any competition involved.

She was more concerned with how the sisters acquired switchblades and why the guards didn't even pay any attention to them.

Ayn explained that they're never searched either and their cells were full of contraband. The guards knew it but they were either too scared or too dirty to look into it.

Fi wanted to know what would happen if their cells were tossed?

Ayn explained that they would be getting their meals through the chuckhole for months. But the only way that would happen is if there as a block wide shakedown. That would bring all of the guards to their cell block, then all bets would be off.

Fi realized that's exactly what she needed and wanted to know if Ayn could arrange it. Ayn was reluctant since she was an entrepreneur and her cell would also be tossed. As a consequence they would find her stash too. She liked Fi but she liked her business more.

Ayn had to have a price. She thought for a moment, then told Fi if she could use her people in Miami, there was a package that her ex-husband was holding that she wanted. If the package could be delivered to prison before the 9am shift change, Fi would get her shakedown and the sisters would be on their way to the hole.

Fi told her it was a deal.

How to arrange a package pickup from inside prison

Madeline, Michael's mom, was home doing laundry when she received a collect call from the prison.

Fi told her that she needed to get an urgent message to Michael.

Madeline informed her that Michael was in the Everglades on a matter they probably shouldn't be discussing on this line.

Fi said that it had to happen fast. That Michael needed to pick up a package and get it to the prison by the 9am shift change.

Madeline asked for the information and assured Fi that they'd work it out.

Further negotiating a cell toss

Fi joined Ayn in the cell block informing her that the call was made and she would get her package. Ayn was impressed "Look at you, a mover and a shaker. I guess the question is when it's getting her." Fi informed her that unfortunately it might take a little longer than expected.

That didn't make any difference to Ayn because she had nothing but time. But if it arrived after 9am, Fi would be fighting off the sisters for another day.

Fi asked for a favor. Could Ayn get the cells tossed as soon as possible? She would get her package. Ayn stated that wasn't how she did business. She didn't build her business by working on credit. The deal was firm. Then added some business advice, "Never negotiate from a position of weakness." Then added "Hope your friends are as good as you say."

A cell toss

It was 9:34am the next morning. Did the package arrive by 9am? Fi didn't think it could have. Would she have another day of avoiding the sisters and trying to stay alive?

The two guards were walking around glancing at cells and people but avoiding the sisters. The sisters were armed with drawn knives when the guards left the area leaving Fi vulnerable. The sisters were slowly making their way toward Fi for the kill.

"There are certain fights you can't hope to win. Your only goal is to not lose too badly. Surviving a beating from multiple attackers is about avoiding the worse blows. You protect your head, do your best to stay on your feet, and most of all you hope for a miracle."

Would she receive a miracle today?

Suddenly an alarm went off with the order to lockdown cell block 9. More guards arrived. The cell toss had begun. A miracle coming to fruition.

The guards didn't see the sisters carrying the knives, but they are ordered to back against their cells; against the wall. The sisters won't stay put making the guards hold them by the neck against their cell bars. Their cells are tossed and multiple weapons are found.

Fi couldn't help but give them a nod and grin. They now knew who was responsible and one of the sisters lashed out with her knife toward Fi with the other not far behind. The guards take them down and they are escorted to holding. Fi was extremely relieved and safe again for the time being.

Fi gets answers

After the cell toss and lockdown had ended, Fi met up with Ayn at mealtime.

"Glad you made it, criminal" Ayn greeted her. "Your people took their sweet time with my delivery."

"And what were they delivering exactly? It must have been important to lose your stash."

Ayn affirmed it was. Fi had been thinking about that package the past 24 hours and wanted to know what was in it.

Ayn showed her a gold heart shaped locket that was around her neck. Fi told her it's beautiful. Ayn shared more. It was her mother's. She died while Ayn was in prison. Her mother was the only person who really loved her and she couldn't even go to her funeral. The locket was all that her mother had to give to her.

Since she was in prison they gave the box to Eddie, her ex, since they never obtained a real divorce. But he wouldn't give it to her because he blamed Ayn for his brother dying.

Fi wanted to know why they blamed her and Ayn said it was because she shot him.

Fi was taken aback by Ayn's response but she still had one more question, but Ayn told her sorry she was way past her quota for the day, but Fi went ahead and asked. "You said that the box had to arrive before the 9am shift change. There's no way it got her on time." Ayn replied, "Maybe it did...or maybe I thought I'd see if I remembered what trust fells like." Fi smiled at her in complete understanding.

How to Get Out from "Under the Gun" Part II

Michael, Sam and Jesse were in the Everglades looking for Matt Sturges the prison guard who had arranged a hit on Fi, Michael's girlfriend, who was in prison on false charges. They had traveled four hours only to find him dead on his living room floor.

Rebecca, who was being controlled by Anson, was responsible. Anson was the reason Fi was in prison and Michael knew he had arranged the hit on Fi as well.

Sam had entered Sturges' house before Rebecca could escape undetected and she had taken him as a hostage.

Part II

How to survive as a hostage

At gunpoint, Rebecca managed to get by Michael and Jesse to her car.  She wrist strapped Sam to the steering wheel and made him drive.

As she was leaving she shot at the engine of Michael's Charger damaging a hose which needed to be repaired with duck tape before they could chase after her.

Sam, a former Navy seal, was familiar with hostage situations.

"When you're abducted at gun point it's best to approach it like a blind date. You want to be an active listener, you want to stay positive, and you want to make a connection. The more you humanize yourself in the eyes of your captor the harder it will be for them to pull the trigger."

Sam tried to make light of the situation by talking to Rebecca "Do you want to listen to the radio? You can pick the station." She wasn't playing along. "You picked me because I'm the cute one, right?", he paused, "That's my curse, I'm just too handsome for my own good." Still no response other than grabbing his phone and calling Michael.

Michael and Jesse were in the process of repairing the Charger with duck tape when she called. She told Michael that she would be keeping Sam for a while. "I'll release him the moment I'm free, but until then I don't want to see your face or any of your CIA friends and if you do anything stupid I dump Sam's body in the swamp." Then she tossed his phone from the car.

After she hung up Jesse felt more comfortable about the situation since Rebecca promised to eventually let Sam go. Michael had to remind him, "Yeah, if you want to trust a woman who betrayed the CIA, and tried to send you on a one way trip to Liberia."

"What's the plan?" Michael told him, "There's only one way out of this area. We hit the road and track her down."

How to safely acquire a car while on the run as a hostage

Sam had been driving around with that deranged woman, Rebecca, using all of his skills to keep himself and everyone else alive.

Rebecca devised a plan to get out of the area. She called information in search of a place that provided helicopter tours and made an appointment that afternoon for a tour for her husband and herself. Now she wanted new wheels since Michael had seen her car. She was willing to take it by killing the driver.

Sam had a better idea, "Shooting someone on the highway in the middle of the afternoon? It's a bad idea. You drop a body on the highway and someone's going to see it. That means cops, that means man hunt. You want to get away clean, right?

She went along with him. Sam flattened a tire on the drivers side, then signaled the first vehicle, a truck, to stop. He pointed to the flat tire and complained that the stupid jack was busted and his wife was suffering from heat stroke and it was getting pretty bad. The owner told Sam he could borrow his jack.

The driver, Edward Rouch, exited the truck and went to the back for the jack. Sam grabbed him from behind and pinned his arms telling him to be quiet and not to ask any questions, they has only a few seconds. He told Eddie that he had been kidnapped and she's got a gun. A guy named Michael Westen would find him. When he does tell him "helicopter tour."

Rebecca approached Sam and Eddie with her gun drawn and asked if there were problems. Sam explained that the guy had generously donated his truck. Then Rebecca hit Eddie at the side of the head knocking him out.

Sam was ordered to put the fisherman in the trunk of her car.

Continuing the search and gaining an advantage in a hostage situation

By now, Michael and Jesse had the Charger fixed well enough to drive. They were about 15 minutes behind Rebecca. Jesse knew Sam would be stalling, Michael was driving fast, but he wished they had some idea if they were still on their trail when they saw Rebecca's car at the side of the road. They stopped, saw the flat tire and heard sounds inside the trunk. Michael pulled the trunk release from inside the car and both he and Jesse drew their guns on the trunk's occupant.

Jesse gave the guy a small cold bottle of water after having been locked in the hot trunk. Eddie told them that Rebecca wanted to kill him, "She wanted to kill me. I could tell. There was nothing behind those eyes. Like a damn barracuda."

Michael wanted to know about Sam, but the guy wanted to make sure he was speaking with Michael Westen. Michael assured him he was. Then Eddie said that Sam told him to tell him "helicopter tour'.

Using his phone, Michael searched for helicopter tours in the area finding four, the closest one was Swamp Hawks Helicopter Tours near Flamingo which was one hour fourteen minutes away. Michael said it would take them an hour to get there, but Eddie told them they could make it in 40 minutes if they took Old Porter Road.

Jesse gave Eddie money for a steak dinner with dessert and said they would call him a cab.

How to avoid a traffic ticket and keep everyone alive when you've been kidnapped

Sam was still trying his best to reason with Rebecca. He wanted to know why she was doing this. Her CIA file indicated she was a model agent. Anson was on the run, he was out of strings to pull and she was sticking with a losing side.

He also wanted to know what Anson's appeal was to her? Tell him the big picture to make him understand and why did she want Fi killed?

Instead of responding she told him to "step on it." Which he did.

"There's a reason spies try to stick to the speed limit in operations. When the stakes are high enough a simple speeding ticket can be a life or death matter for you or for the police officer who's just trying to do his job."

Of course, as luck had it they passed a patrol car off the side of the road in a speed trap. Sam was approaching 65 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. He pulled the truck over. Rebecca immediately wanted to kill the officer, but Sam trying to maintain order in this chaotic situation, told her he would handle it without blood shed.

She regretted not killing the fisherman because he no doubt reported his truck stolen. Sam reminded her that they had taken his phone and locked him in the trunk. "Do you think he reported it with telepathy?"

Her response was "We would know for sure if he was dead."

He assured her that all the officer was doing was making them sweat a little.

Rebecca was waving her gun in the air but fortunately the police officer was more interested in the license plate number and didn't see it. She tucked it under a garment on her lap before he arrived at the driver's side window.

Sam was monitoring the situation when the police officer approached the truck and asked for the license and registration. This presented  problems. The registration and Sam's drivers license weren't going to match, the police officer would know who the truck owner was, and he would know who Sam was.

Sam kept a calm composure. The officer asked if he was Sam Axe and Sam said "yes". Then he wanted to know why Sam was driving a truck registered to Edward Rouch.

He explained that Ed was his boss and he was just borrowing the truck. The officer said he would call Ed for confirmation.

To discourage the police officer from making the call, Sam had to quickly come up with a cover story, one that the officer would believe. Sam told the officer that calling Ed would be a problem, because Ed would know where his wife was. He tried to appeal to the officer's soft side by letting him know that he probably heard sob stories all day long.

The officer told him not to bother with his story. Sam was driving 25 miles over the speed limit and he was going to get a ticket.

Rebecca finally spoke, and asked Sam what they were going to do. Ed was going to lose it when he received that phone call. Sam reassured Rebecca that they would figure something out, he would somehow get her to her sister's since that was someplace safe.

Sam explained to the officer that Ed had quite a temper and the officer responded that wasn't his problem.

Rebecca added that this time when Ed found her she would be dead.

Sam continued his explanation telling the officer that it was a bad idea to take Ed's truck but his was in the shop. He hated seeing this sweet, innocent lady being knocked around. "Do you think I'm just going to sit on my hands?" Then he asked the officer if he could just this time look the other way, they would appreciate it.

The officer thought it over then told Sam to watch the lead foot since there were other officers out there. Then he tore up the ticket he had been writing and sent them on their way.

After the police officer left, Sam turned to Rebecca and said "Not even a ticket. Now are you going back to threatening the guy who just saved your ass?", as she was reapplying the wrist straps to his hands and steering wheel.

How to commandeer an aircraft

Rebecca and Sam's involvement with the police officer gave Michael and Jesse enough time to arrive first at Swamp Hawks Helicopter Tours and they spot the helicopter. The pilot is busy getting ready for the tour.

The place couldn't be worse for setting a trap to grab Sam. The only way was to take over the helicopter and wait inside.

As Michael approach the pilot he devised a cover id. He told the pilot, Bill Padover, he was Derrik Hubert from the FAA. He had received some ridiculous complaints so he thought he would come down himself to investigate. A recent customer had filed complaints of the pilot clipping trees; landing near power lines, that kind of thing. Michael told him he already pulled his file and these complaints didn't seem like him at all.

Using his skills, Michael informed Bill the complaints came last week by some folks from up north. Bill asked if it was the couple from Virginia and Michael agreed. Michael added that they also claimed there was booze on his breathe. Michael assured Bill he was on his side and wanted his help filling out the report, but first he needed to see his level 5, knowing that he most likely wouldn't have it with him.

Bill said the level 5 was at home so Michael told him he better go get it, but Bill said had a tour. Michael told him the tour had been postponed, he had already talked to the gal at the front desk. Good news was that she had his back and disputed the worst of the complaints. Bill was surprises that there were even more complaints.

Michael told him he really didn't want to know about them. These folks didn't realize Bill's career was at stake. The clock was ticking and Michael wanted to know how long it was going to take Bill to get his level 5. Bill said he could be back within 45 minutes.

After Bill left, wearing the pilot's helmet, Michael positioned himself inside the helicopter waiting for Sam and Rebecca. After Jesse hid the Charger he made his way from a turbine fuel tank to some crates just as Sam and Rebecca approach the helicopter.

Attempting a hostage rescue

Sam and Rebecca arrived shortly after Micahel and Jesse. She sarcastically thanked Sam for driving, even though he really didn't have a choice since he was zip tied to the steering wheel at gun point. He asked where they were going and Rebecca informed him that she would worry about that.

They are welcomed by Mary Dale to Swamp Hawks Helicopter Tours. The chopper was spit polished and ready to go but first they had to fill out some paper work. Sam tried to get Rebecca to fill it out but she turned it over to him.

Rebecca wanted to know if the chopper had enough fuel to stay out longer. Mary Dale said "can do" but it would cost a little extra but you couldn't put a price on a memory. Sam said "neither of us are going to forget today." Mary Dale was about to find out why.

"As any crisis negotiator knows, only about one in five hostages survive a rescue attempt. If you're the hostage you'd like to improve those odds, which means figuring out where your rescue is coming from and getting yourself out of the line of fire. Of course, if your captor's every bit as trained as you are, even the slightest attempt to adjust your position might be noticed."

As they made their way to the chopper, Rebecca started getting suspicious, Sam was slowly gaining distance between them in the event there was shooting. She grabbed him by the arm and pulled him closer to her.

"Any chance we could get a photo with the pilot before we take off for the scrapbook?", Rebecca asked. Mary Dale tried to contact the pilot using a two way transmitter to come out for a photo, but there was no response. Mary Dale didn't understand what was up but Rebecca had an idea and drew her gun.

Michael stepped out of the chopper on the side away from Rebecca as she started shooting sending Mary Dale screaming, fleeing for her life.

He ran for cover behind oil refuse containers just as Rebecca spotted the fuel truck near the chopper and fired at the tank causing it to spring leaks, then at the ground igniting the spilled fuel.

Michael told Jess to run just before the fuel truck exploded. The explosion had so much force it threw them to the ground. This allowed Rebecca to get away from the area with Sam.

Rebecca flees with Sam

Back in the truck, Rebecca told Sam that all she needed was for him to get into the chopper. He didn't like that idea because it hadn't worked out well for the prison guard not to mention anyone who ran into her friend Anson.

She assured Sam Anson wasn't her friend. Okay, then Anson was her partner. They all knew what happened when they were done with people.

"Well, then maybe you should just go ahead and pull that trigger. That way you won't have anything to hold over Mike anymore and you can just add me to that list of bodies you've been dropping. How many is it now?"

Rebecca supplied more information, "You think you know me? You don't know anything. I never wanted any of this. I work for Anson because if I don't my brother dies."

By now Michael was in hot pursuit of Rebecca, close enough for Jesse to try and slow them down by shooting at the tires. The Charger was just being held together with duck tape. Michael nearly missed large rocks by the side of the road, when the Charger started making noise that didn't sound good.

Michael reassured Jesse that it would be okay just as the radiator went, bringing the car to a halt.

Jesse thought it was time to bring in the CIA but Michael disagreed. They weren't calling the CIA or the police. If Rebecca sees a road block she will kill Sam. He was better off on his own...which he already was.

They needed to fix the car fast and find him.

Jesse added, "the good news is that we have her cornered in the world's biggest swamp."

Rescuing the hostage

With the Charger temporary out of commission, Rebecca and Sam get away.

They stumble upon airboats hidden behind a covered fence containing occupants. Somthing told Sam the airboats weren't for sale. Rebecca pulled out her gun to negotiate for them.

Quickly, Sam pointed out the industrial air filtration system and chemical vats. These guys are either opening a dry cleaners in the middle of nowhere or they're cooking meth. If she approached them they are likely to shoot off her face then what would they do to the guy zip tied to a truck?

He wanted to come up with a plan where no one ended up dead.  He suggested just waiting until the dealers went back inside their trailer and they would pretend it was a police raid. Rebecca didn't buy it. She told him that she actually had a plan that he would be happy with that didn't involve guns.

Instead she placed five bricks of C4 in a backpack, placed it on Sam, zipped tied his hands so he couldn't remove it and sent him into the meth dealers camp.

"The standard M1 12 demolition charge contains 1.25 pounds of C4. When the charge is detonated the explosives convert into compressed gas and the shock wave rips through anything within 16 feet which means if five of those charges are in your backpack anyone within a city block is in your blast radius too."

The dealers weren't happy with Sam's intrusion and point their guns at him. He asked them to take it easy and not to shoot. "Didn't you see the sign? You must have a death wish." Sam said he didn't and instructed them to gently look into his backpack...it would explain everything.

One of them checked then stood back. The leader asked what it was and Sam explained that it was five bricks of C4, enough to make a very big crater right where they were standing and leave tiny pieces of them all over their property. But that wasn't the bad news. The bad news was that a psycho woman had the detonator and she would decide when they would go boom.

"You think you can just walk in here with that bomb and rip us off?" Sam told them, "She doesn't want your guns, your drugs or your chemistry set. She just wants an airboat and for you guys to clear out until after we're gone." The meth dealer didn't know who he was dealing with. "It sounds like you're giving us orders, on our property." Just then Rebecca started shooting and everyone took cover.

As everyone was seeking shelter from the flying bullets, Sam eyed an unattended phone nearby.

One of the meth dealers ordered Sam to stop shooting. Sam shouted back that he couldn't and if they get blown up it will be the dealers fault. "I told you to run." They quickly scrambled to their truck and took off breaking down the entrance gate as they left.

Sam grabbed the cell phone and placed it in the pocket in one of his pant legs. He yelled to Rebecca that she could stop shooting, but she had to shoot again just missing him to make her point.

Rebecca removed the zip ties and backpack from Sam, zip tied him to a pipe while she sought the airboats for their escape.

While Rebecca was busy with the airboats Sam called Michael giving him directions to where he could find them and told Michael that he probably won't get there in time. If that happened Michael should call the CIA or anyone. They would be in an airboat. Either way Sam was sure he was going to be dead.

After talking with Michael, Sam called Elsa, his current girlfriend. Choked up, he told her he probably wouldn't be making it for dinner that night. He would try to call her later, but in case..."I just want to say I love you, baby."

Before he could hang up Rebecca was there asking him why he was calling other girls. She thought they had something special.

Following Sam's directions Michael was able to locate the dealers den. He called out for Sam without a response. Around a corner he found Sam's body on the ground still cable tied to the pipe. Fortunately, Sam was still alive, but unconscious, with a head wound, blood rolling down his face.

Sam said Rebecca had started an airboat and wanted to know where the "backpack thingy" was. There was a bomb in it.

Jesse left to find Rebecca.

Sam was concerned about his head injury and wanted to know how bad it was. He didn't want his girlfriend to freak out, but was grateful it wasn't his chin.

Michael thought maybe Rebecca took the backpack with her.

Jesse heard an airboat start and take off. He jumped in another one in hot pursuit.

"Airboats are built light with the least material possible which is great if you want to skim quickly across the water but it's problematic in a gun fight when you don't have anything to hide behind. You want to make sure you fire first and last. Of course, there's no need to hide when you've been chasing a decoy."

Jesse caught up with the airboat but it was empty. Rebecca wasn't there. He quickly phoned Michael to let him know.

While Michael was on the phone with Jesse, Sam wandered towards the Charger waiting for him. As Michael turned around he noticed something underneath it -- the backpack. He hung up the phone. "Sam, I think I found where the backpack bomb is."

Michael yelled for Rebecca, then added that she had won and he was putting his gun on the ground. Once he did, Rebecca came out from hiding with the detonator in her hand, ready to release it. She was waiting until Michael was closer to the car before she detonated the bomb.

Michael tried to reason with Rebecca, he was the one she wanted and to let Sam go. Sam took over the conversation telling Rebecca she was making a big mistake. She hated Anson at least as much as they did. He saw it in her eyes.

Anson was desperate now. He was either going to kill her or continue using her brother to manipulate her. Help them bring Anson down and they would keep her brother safe.

At this point she didn't trust anyone. Sam explained that she had plenty of time to kill him but she didn't. Rebecca told Sam he didn't know her.

Michael said he knew her. "I know you better than you think. I know what it's like to save someone close to you, selling your soul a piece at a time. I know what it feels like to wonder if there is a way out." She said she couldn't trust them, but Michael told her she sure could trust them better than she could trust Anson.

There was only one way to finish this for good. They had to take him down together.

Rebecca didn't think there was anything they could do. Michael told her "There's nothing I won't do."

Now to get Anson

After returning from the Everglades, Michael, Sam and Rebecca meet at Michael's place.

Rebecca had a photo of her brother, Trent, taken six months earlier. She told them to find him without informing the CIA. They weren't her biggest fan.

Sam added, "All righty, a little game of global manhunt. Let's get started."

Rebecca had no idea who took the photo. Anson had sent her all of the photos she had.

Trent lived in Miami until three years ago when he had to go off the grid and only Anson knew where he was. She had tried everything possible to find him, but she knew if Anson even saw her looking for him, Trent was dead.

Michael assured Rebecca that they would find her brother.
