When a "Shock Wave" Hits Part IX
Everything was coming into place. Michael had CIA resources, he had Jesse and his brother, Nate, to help him. Sam was watching over his mom in the event Anson had someone pay her a visit. They were so close to capturing Anson so Fi, his girlfriend, would be released from prison, he could taste victory. But any bad move would send Anson further underground. Nothing could go wrong. Everything was at stake.
WAITING FOR ANSON IN AN ATLANTIC CITY MOTEL
"When the CIA plans the capture of a high valued target, no expense is spared. Directional microphones, fiber optic cameras, taser guns, all the toys come out."
Michael was in a motel room with Pearce and Jesse monitoring the situation outside, waiting for Anson to arrive for his travel package. Nate was outside securing the vehicles.
Michael was acting like a kid in a candy store, taking charge of the operation. He told Pearce she didn't know how spoiled she was. On previous ops, Michael didn't have the equipment and manpower that was assigned to this case.
Just as everything was getting in place, there was noise outside. As Pierce, Jesse and Michael examined the situation, Michael wanted to know what was the story with room 111. Since Michael rarely took time out for fun, Jesse sarcastically replied. "Um, this is kind of awkward Mike, that's what a party looks like."
Michael rolled his eyes, of course he knew what a party looked like, but he was worried that the cops would soon be involved. Some of the other guests were ready to call them because of the disturbance. If the cops showed up, it wasn't the type of welcome mat they wanted to lay out for Anson.
Pierce asked if they had enough money, they could pay the guests to leave. She had done that in Beirut with success. And it was fast and easy.
While they were still planning what to do, Nate walked up to the room and turned off the car stereo that was providing the music for the party. Jesse remarked. "Oh, hold on. We've got Nate Westen to the rescue."
Nate promptly asked whose room it was and Michael became alarmed. The owner of the car was disturbed that Nate had turned off the music. Nate apologized and went on to say that he needed all of their linens.
Michael arrived to see what Nate was up to. Nate continued. "Well, I'm the assistant manager. And, oh, this is Manny and unfortunately, and I don't want to alarm anyone, but we've had a massive bed bug infestation."
This promptly caused the motel guest to tell everyone at the party that they had to "roll" since the place had bed bugs, telling Nate that he wasn't paying for the room. Nate apologized again for the inconvenience.
As they were waking away, Nate told Michael. "There going to roll, yo. You're welcome." Michael wasn't pleased at all how Nate handled the situation. "What the hell was that?"
"You liked that? That's actually a true story. One time when I was on the strip and I had these..." Michael interrupted then went on to explain. "You drive. That's what you do, nothing else."
Nate begged to differ. "It worked." Michael explained why it was a bad idea. "Yeah, what if it worked too well? Do you want the entire motel to clear out? Anson would know something's wrong from down the block."
Then Nate apologized to Michael. He just never seemed to do anything that pleased his big brother. He had messed up again. He respected and admired him, Michael was his hero. All he ever wanted was to gain his approval.
WAITING FOR ANSON
"One of the hardest parts in any take down operation is waiting for the target to show. There's nothing to do but wait and watch knowing that even the smallest mistake can ruin everything."
Michael, Jesse, Pearce, and Nate were still in the motel room waiting for Anson. Michael was cleaning his weapon and Jesse was sitting behind his computer waiting for signs of Anson. Pearce was monitoring outside the motel room, when someone approached carrying what appeared like pizza boxes. Nate was checking out the available Adult movies on the TV screen.
"Michael, we have a visitor." Pearce told Michael. Michael wanted to know if it was Anson, and Peace told him it looked like a delivery guy.
"Sweet. Pizza's here." Nate got up off the bed to answer the door and pay for the pizzas. Michael and Jesse couldn't believe what was happening. "I hope you guys like Hawaiian Style. Oh, just do me a favor, let the guys know...dinner." Nate continued opening the motel room door.
Michael looked at Jesse and pointed to the rifles on the bed. Jesse quickly made his way to the bed and put the bedspread over them as Nate opened the door.
"How are you doing?"
Agent Pearce looked at Michael as if to say "what's happening?"
After paying for the pizzas, Nate walked to the small table at the back of the room. Michael yelled. "Damn it Nate. That's the second time you jeopardized this operation."
Nate looked shocked. "What? I just got pizza. I did something nice."
"Who orders four pizzas to a motel room? Why don't you just hang a sign on the door "sting in process"?"
"I really doubt..."
Agent Pearce looked down, slightly embarrassed for Nate.
"I can't keep cleaning up after you. Not on this one. You need to go. I mean it. Out the back now." Michael ordered.
"Fine." Nate said, then left out the back door.
Michael was so angry that he slammed the pizza boxes to the floor.
Jesse chimed in. "Look, Mike, I get it, but that was a little harsh man, I mean, he's your brother."
This operation was critical for Michael. "Fiona's life is on the line, Jess. I can't have Nate... There's no margin for error on this."
