When a "Shock Wave" Hits Part XI

NATE CAPTURES ANSON

Anson was making his way through the Tides Cafe talking on his cell phone. "Listen to me. You can have the cash if you bring the ids. Because something doesn't smell right." Apparently, he was making a change of plans that the person on the other end was arguing about.

Just then Nate came from a blind spot and slugged Anson in the face sending him flying across the floor along with his cell phone and eyeglasses. Nate took the gun that was tucked in back of Anson's pants and aimed it at him. "Hey, asshole. Michael Westen says hello. Get up." Anson slowly started moving trying desperately to come up with a plan to escape. Again Nate said. "Get up."

Nate led him outside the Cafe with the gun still aimed at him waiting for Michael to arrive with the CIA. He wasn't about to let him escape. He was finally doing something right that his brother could be proud of.

They literally had been tracking down Anson for years, ever since Michael landed in Miami after being "burned" by the CIA. They just didn't know who he was until recently. The capture of Anson would also mean the release of Michael girlfriend, Fi.

Sirens were blaring in the distance as Nate waited patiently. Help was arriving. "Enjoy the moment Fredo, but I know where too many bodies are buried. I'll be out in a week."

Nate told him to shut up, hoping that wouldn't happen. Then added. "Shut your mouth. I don't want to hear it."

Michael, Jesse and Agent Pearce exited a black SUV and started to walk towards the entrance. Jesse told Michael. "I'll call Fi's lawyer. Tell her she can start the paperwork."

Michael and the CIA team were quickly approaching Nate who still had the gun pointed at Anson. Anson had a smirk on his face waiting for the arrest.

"Mike, we got him, man." Jesse said as he saw Nate with Anson. Michael was smiling, which was rare, at the thought of it ending with a capture. "It is about time." Michael responded. Nate was proud and smiling at the site of his brother approaching.

Just then a shot rang out followed by another one. Jesse, Michael, and Pearce ducked briefly at the horrible sound. Nate closed his eyes from the sound of the first bullet and spattered blood hitting his face, then fell back after the second one. He had been shot. He was thrown against the wall and dust was dispersed from the other side of the wall. Using the wall, he braced himself and stood up straight opened his mouth then slowly started sinking to the ground, no longer being able to hold himself up.

Michael looked behind him to see where the shot came from while Pearce lowered herself to a kneeling position looking in a different direction, and Jesse was still ducking from the sound and looked at a third direction, none of them at Nate. The sound was ricocheting off the tall buildings around them.

Agent Pearce pointed her gun as she raised herself to a standing position at where she believed the shot came from. Jesse was the first to look towards Nate followed by Michael.

Michael could see his brother start falling to the ground. He was in shock. As Nate fell a large hold in the wall was exposed with a blood streak from Nate's shirt.

Michael started running to Nate's side yelling. "Nate." He yelled again. "Nate."

Nate was lying on his back trying to reach his back where he had been shot. Anson was lying dead near him.

Michael reached his brother and knelt down beside him and placed his hand on Nate's blood splattered cheek. Blood was rolling out of his mouth. "Nate, you're going to be alright." Nate nodded his head. "Okay?" Nate nodded again. "Look at me. You're okay." He grabbed Nate's hand and held it as he placed the other one along side his face. "You're okay. I'm going to get you help, alright?"

Nate was having a hard time breathing so Michael released Nate's hand and held Nate's head with both his hands. "I'm scared." He told Michael. "Come on. No, no, no." Michael told his brother as he lay dying with a tear rolling down his cheek, Nate took his final breathe. "No, no, no."

Michael shook his brother. "No." He shook his brother again. "No. Hay." He yelled even louder. "Hay. Nate." Michael gently shook him one more time to revive him, but Nate was gone. All Michael could do was stare at him in disbelief with such sadness continuing to yell his name hoping to bring him back.

Meanwhile, Jesse, Pearce and the other agents had their weapons drawn pointing at various locations on the nearby buildings looking for the sniper. Jesse yelled. "South side's clear."

"There's nothing over here." Pearce yelled.

Jesse looked in the direction of Nate, then took a step to the left to get a better view, dropped his arm carrying the gun to his side in disbelief at what he saw. He saw Michael kneeling beside his brother.

Agent Pearce had now also dropped her weapon and was slowly moving toward Michael's side, saddened at the scene in front of her.

They had their man, but it came with a cost, the lost of one of their own.
