When a "Shock Wave" Hits Part XII

Michael had two things he needed to attend to. He was about to do the hardest thing in his entire life. Taking down bad guys and international conspiracies seemed minor compared to this. The other was supposed to be an exciting and joyous event, but now had lost it's spark. He had worked so hard to get to this point, but was it worth it? He had lost so much and those around him even more. Was it worth loosing his brother and now possibly his mother too? Sure Fi would be released, but would she have ever been in prison to begin with it he had chosen a different path?

BREAKING THE NEWS TO MADELINE

"A spies life is spent preparing, learning languages, researching targets, practicing with weapons. You prepare so when the important moments arrive you're ready but there are certain moments, human moments that no amount of training can prepare you for."

Madeline was in her '60s avocado and orange kitchen preparing food when Michael arrived to break the news about Nate's death. "Hi, honey. How'd it go?" Michael was visibly saddened, looking down as he made his way towards her. Her expression changed from being happy to concerned.

"Mom." She saw how upset he was and said. "Michael, what's the matter." Michael couldn't utter a word, numerous thoughts were running through his head. What were the right words to say? What can I say to make it less of a shock? How do I tell her that he son died helping me? After all she had warned him plenty of times to protect Nate and keep him out of harms way.

By now Madeline was standing in front of her son with her hands on his upper arms ready to give him comfort. The words finally came out. "Nate's gone." She slowly lowered her arms in disbelief, tears starting to form. "Mom, Nate's dead." Madeline gasped for breathe after hearing those dreadful words.

As common when receiving very bad news, she shook her head no. Then she became very angry telling Michael. "No he isn't." Then she slapped Michael hard across the face. She was very shaken and started stomping her feet, like we all do when faced with a terrible situation that is out of our control.

She went towards him again to strike, but this time Michael grabbed both arms to help calm her down. She struggled with all her might finally breaking away with one arm to strike him. He ward off the blow and put his arms around her pulling her close to him and holding her tight against his body, trying the best to comfort her while dealing with the grief.

Madeline tried to put her hands on him to hold him but couldn't bear to do even that. The news was so great she could hardly stand but Michael held her tight not letting her fall to the ground.

TIME TO PICK UP FI FROM PRISON

Michael had returned from Atlantic City. He had been there tracking Anson down and his brother Nate had captured him, only to be shot just moments before Michael arrived to take custody. Nate died while Michael was at his side.

Michael was the one who broke the devastating news to his mother about her son's death. It was a tramatic event that had drained all of his energy.

The capture of Anson was necessary to release his girlfriend, Fi from prison. She had turned herself into the FBI to protect Michael. Anson had framed her for deaths she wasn't responsible for and she thought she had enough documentation to prove her innocence.

Anson's capture and death was enough for Fi to be released from prison. Her lawyer prepared the necessary paperwork and now it was time to pick her up. The team, Michael, Sam and Jesse, were waiting at the prison gates for her release.

"Took you long enough. I was being to think you didn't need me."

"Fi, I need more than ever." Michael told her. She didn't know about Nate's death.

"Micheal, what's wrong." She said, as Michael held her close to him, not letting go.
